Agencies in eCFR
With the exception of published content, references to agencies in eCFR.gov are non-official, editorial supplements to the Code of Federal Regulations. These references are derived from CFR chapter headings but may have been modified to help identify the agency or agencies currently associated with the selected content. The references may differ from the published chapter headings for reasons including but not limited to:
The CFR chapter heading has not yet been updated by the responsible agency
When viewing historical, point-in-time content, the name, responsibility, or parent agency has changed
The current official name of the agency, or a commonly used name differs from that published in the Code of Federal Regulations
Some agency names were revised from their heading form to better sort or fit the space available
An agency’s name is suffixed with the name of its parent agency to avoid ambiguity, e.g. Office of Secretary, Department of Housing and Urban Development
Searching and Filtering
The results displayed on the eCFR Search and Recent Changes pages can be filtered to content from one or more agencies. To do this start by typing an agency’s name or acronym into the “Agencies” text area. As you type, agencies matching your text will appear. When the agency you wish to select has appeared, click on its name and it will be displayed on the page. After you enter “Search” the results will only include content from this agency. If you have selected a parent agency, the results will also include results from subagencies. You can select multiple agencies if desired.

After you have selected an agency or agencies on the Recent Changes page, and click “Search” the displayed changes will only be those associated with the selected agencies or their sub-agencies.
Similarly after you have selected an agency or agencies on the Search page, the search results will be restricted. In addition, it is now possible to subscribe to the eCFR changes that are associated with an agency or agencies.
Subscribing to Agency Changes
To subscribe to agency results, begin with a search. Enter the agency you wish to subscribe to in the Agencies field and click search. Once your search has completed, you will be able to subscribe to all future changes from that agency. For more details about subscriptions refer to the reader aid.
